Upcoming Exhibition
SEVEN SINS
by young artist ERNEST BESSEMS
17-19 February 2023
Art Chapel, Amsterdam
We are excited and proud to announce the upcoming exhibition of young artist Ernest Bessems. KADER offered support in the creation of his newest, monumental body of work.
Ernest Bessems (1996) is a Dutch artist whose practice comprises sculpture, drawing, painting, and performance.
Initially educated as an architect, Bessems continues to work on the scale of architecture, but with a shift in form to that of the human figure. In his newest work he has transposed the seven deadly sins into seven spectacular sculptures.
Bessems’ Seven Sins will be exhibited in a former chapel designed in 1959 by Dutch Functionalist architect Lau Peters (1900-1969).
The closed, round shape of the building with a rhythm of small windows is now known as the Art Chapel.
Intruded by Bessems’ giants — stuck in their profane ways and complimented by sound fragments, drawings, and performances — the chapel’s space and Bessems’ sculptures alike are charged with an almost inevitable, timeless metaphor.
With roots in the arts and a keen interest in architecture, KADER holds a special place for both fields and their powerful link to interior.
We congratulate Ernest Bessems with his amazing work: Seven Sins!
