Many of Robert Suermondt’s paintings, like his Géométrie XIV, are based on the implicit contract that the image itself, and our gaze upon it remain, untethered. A ride for the eyes! Always shifting freely, finding the edge, the plunge, the rise…

…The adhesion between both gaze and painting never becomes fixed, nor predictable. His paintings offer a holdfast in space, which is certainly the case with Suermondt’s Géométrie XII.
