An exceptional piece by Mathieu Matégot. This French artist of Hungarian origin is renown for his graceful designs of practical furniture and utilities for both house and garden. The use of rigitulle (a type of perforated sheet metal) became a key element in his work, which he even patented — often rounded into a shapely form with curled trimming.

For this umbrella stand Matégot folded the rigitullle into a delicate plissé, spatially encompassed by a slender, red metal ring. The cream coloured lacquer has some traces of rusty ageing.
