This spectacular standing lamp functions like its suggestive name implies. The two half-spheres of anodised aluminium turn into one another, allowing the light to mimic all phases of an eclipse.
In the mid-sixties, the expressive design by Java born Dutch architect Evert Jelle Jelles was presented with lyrical rendition. Mused to be like the moon in all its appearances, it was considered to offer a deep romanticism to evening hours.
Indeed, the Eclipse has a real magical touch, even though its construction is in fact quite straight-forward and industrial. Produced by the innovative manufacturer Raak, it is part of a distinct oeuvre of high quality, ingenious lighting.
This specimen is in good vintage condition, with minor scratches and bumps on the aluminium reflectors and a beautifully subdued wear of the lacquered stand. Even the original rubber latches are still in tact.
