Important and exclusive lounge chair designed by Theo Ruth as a unique specimen for Artifort. Designed especially to be presented on the first Furniture and Art Fair after WOII, held in 1950 in Maastricht. Theo Ruth was head designer at the Artifort Company and managed designers such as Pierre Paulin and Geoffrey Harcourt.

The year 1950 was a crucial year for Artifort, as the company took a radical turn into a new modern design world. Therefore this very rare unique piece of design can be described as ‘iconic’ and truly pivotal in the history of Artifort design.

This grand lounge chair was purchased from the first owner who herself had purchased it directly from Artifort during the Furniture and Art Fair in 1950.

The chair forms an absolutely breathtaking set together with the appurtenant arm chair and sofa, also unique. All three pieces are constructed from elmwood and upholstered with fabulous, high quality mohair fabric. Over the years the wool colour has faded from a deep moss green to this rich and glowing, irresistible shade of gold.

What a gem! The whole set is still completely original and in very good condition.
