The dutch painter Harry Visser titled this painting after the Bilderdijk street in Amsterdam, one of the busiest shopping streets of the city bustling with commuters, residents, and tourists passing through or visiting the many shops and restaurants.

Bilderdijkstraat number 63 still exists as a house with apartments on every floor and accommodation for a lovely flower shop.

Harry Visser was an active member of the art scene in Amsterdam in the sixties. The historic photo further down, dating from 1968, depicts him painting his part on a long, panoramic painting stretching across the entire facade of the Stedelijk Museum, alongside Herman IJzebaard and others.
