Rare set designed by third generation Bossche School architect Gerard Wijnen, also known as ‘Goliath’. The architect had these chairs in his private residence. As a homage we named the chairs after him, subsequently underlining their monumental size.
Wijnen was head of the successful architectural firm ‘De Twee Snoeken’ (‘The Two Pikes’).
The finishing of this set is quite amazing and very typical for the Bossche School: a transparent color varnish applied in several layers, leaving visible the wood grain and thus blending naturally with the object instead of covering it completely.
Wim van Hooff, the one responsible for this varnishing technique, was a color artist and close colleague to Bossche School founder Dom H. van der Laan.
We have two more chairs with a different color in stock.
