Dutch furniture manufacturer Rohé is renown for its designs with rattan and steel. This side chair is a real eye-catcher in their comprehensive collection: not only because of the use of wood instead of rattan, but also because of its fantastic design.

The slender slats of dark teak and lighter birch wood fan out to shape the curvature of the seat, where they alternately latch together. The effect is very expressive and elegant, giving the chair an Italian flair even though the cool clarity of its simple construction is an obvious sign of Dutch origin.

Two brass bolts on both sides hold the ingenious construction together. The flat, square shape of the middle bolts give away the age and authenticity of this chair. Its solid staff steel frame is in original condition as well, showing a soft green oxidation: a beautiful, rich patina gained with age.
