Rarely does one see a single piece of plywood this large, except for maybe on old airplane wings. Indeed, this rare bench is a thrilling mystery piece in our collection. We are still in the process of extending our research towards singular designs of, perhaps, the Dutch functionalist designer Cor Alons.

For now, provenance is dim, despite the fact that this plywood bench has only had two owners. The first: a primary school in Amsterdam, left vacant for many years, until the second: a passionate design collector, saved the plywood bench from demolition.

Since then, decennia passed and both school and collector succumbed. We are left with the miracle that this beautiful bench survived time and children’s play, its seemingly delicate seating so organically curving around its frame. Take note of the slight tapering of those front legs!
